Our History
Community Eye Care, was established by Dr. David B. Kenney M.D. in 1965 across from Community Hosptial at 16th and Ritter. Ronald Beams M.D. joined the practice in 1970. In 1991, the practice moved to it's current location in the Community Hospital East professional building. Dr. Kenny retired in 1994. That same year, John Latona M.D, Ph.D. joined Dr. Beams and they practiced together on the Eastside for the next ten years.
2004 was a year of great change. Dr. Beams retired in March, and Dr. LaTona took over leadership of the practice to continue the tradition of high quality eye care. The practice changed its name to Community Eye Care of Indiana. To better meet the need for comprehensive eye care, Richard Kautzman O.D. also joined the practice.
Also in 2004, Community Eye Care of Indiana expanded its presence to the Community North campus with the acquisition of Comprehensive Eye Care of Indiana and Community Arts Optical. Community Eye Care of Indiana was on its way to becoming a landmark for comprehensive eye care in Indianapolis.
Since then Community Eye Care of Indiana has focused on adding outstanding professionals to meet your eye care needs. Our optometry team now includes Mark Snyder, OD, and Stacey Pruitt, OD. Dr. LaTona is joined in ophthalmology by Chad Kauffman, DO and Gerald Keener, MD.
